John Powell was born in 1930 and currently lives with his wife in Santa Barbara, California. At an early age, John had a passion to travel, which lead him to various countries where he found inspiration. While in Mexico, John enrolled in the Mexico City College, to learn from its excellent art department. The influence of the primitive arts of Mexico would be forever expressed in Powell’s paintings. As well as the beautiful, exotic land in Japan, created aspirations of capturing vivid colors in his compositions.
John Powell imparts, "I love my environment. My environment is a very, very strong part of my painting. The gardens I have and the flowers around me, I use them all in my paintings." "I sometime make things better than they are, at least to my eye." Powell’s creativity direct reflects his home and studio. Around his home he has a collection of wood carvings, weather vanes, ceramic pots, old model airplanes, unusual antiques and a lovely garden that reflects his love of flowers.
