Patrick Ryan was born in Omaha, Nebraska. Patrick Ryan later adopted the pen name of Henri Plisson for his impressionist painting style. Henri attended the University of Nebraska for his undergraduate degree and continued to the University of Southern California for his Master of Fine Arts degree. Henri Plisson currently continues to paint in San Diego, California.
Henri combines his classical foundation with a richly textured style to create a unique vision. He incorporates an astonishing sense of color creating vibrant and radiant images. Plisson’s excellent technical skills coupled with a rich imagination and intuitive technique has set him apart from his colleagues. His work has pushed beyond the Impressionist style to a more specific genre of “emotional expressionism."
“If painting is too finished, too exact, it poses limitation on your ability to see it. The image freezes, limiting your illusion. What are you doing in Impressionism is focusing on one thing, but you are painting another,” says artist Henri Plisson. “In other words, make it in terms of the way you use paint rather than doing a literal representation.”
