"I express my inner feelings and emotions as they are. The colors depend on my feelings and the movement of my hand. If feelings from inside move my brush, I have to always be happy, otherwise the picture will be a sad one. I can't paint when I'm down, but I seldom feel down," expresses Leslie Sayour. "Flowers make me happy," she says. "I can be in the dingiest parts of New York City and the sights of a flower stand will pick me up. If I’m depressed, just give me a bouquet of flowers and I'm fine!" Leslie Sayour has American country roots that run deep throughout her Southern family. Her great, great granduncle was President Andrew Jackson and Daniel Boone was her fourth cousin. But it was an elderly neighbor who introduced Leslie to the beauty of a garden. Leslie quickly learned to garden and had transformed a part of her Claremont, California yard, by the age of eight. Leslie finds her inspiration in the beauty of colors and nature. She is a self-taught artist that started to paint flowers seriously in 1970 when she rented beautiful property that was located on a cliff that overlooked the ocean at Point Loma in San Diego. She became intoxicated with the sweeping landscape of unlimited colors and forms. Today, Leslie Sayour lives with her three children in La Jolla, California. |
