In 1948, Thomas Stiltz was born in the city of Newark, Delaware. Even at the age of five, Thomas’ artistic talent became evident. By 12 years old, he was chosen to participate in art classes at the Delaware Art Museum.
Thomas Stiltz earned his Bachelor of Arts in 1965 with a major in Art focusing in painting. He then discovered photography, ceramics, and sculpture which aided him in receiving a grant to attend graduate school at the University of Delaware. He received his Master of Arts shortly after.
Thomas Stiltz has professionally worked as a painter, art director, and photographer. His knowledge of photography has allowed Tom to understand the sensitivity of light and form. By using old world techniques of layering colors to build paint surface and the effects of light, Stiltz’s compositions contain depth and richness. In the foreground, he also places a strong emphasis on objects to be rendered in a naturalistic way.
Stiltz has a strong perception of picture space and a dramatic flair, which coupled together, naturally produces striking paintings. His purpose is to create feelings and emotions about ordinary, everyday objects in our lives.
Today, Thomas Stiltz lives in Maryland, outside the Baltimore area.
